Biography -Reinhold Messner- JORDAn

Reinhold Messner was born in 1944 in Italy. Since when he was very young, he was excited in mountain. So he often climbed up mountains with his father. When he was a little older, he was beginning to climb mountain with his younger brother. Messner was actually talented in climbing. One day, Messner got bored of just climbing the peaks of the Alps. Then he decided to climb mountains in Himalaya. He decided to climb the 14mountains. Each of them is more than 8000m.
He decided to climb a mountain named Nanga Parbat which was one of those 14mountains. There was an extremely tragical accident. He was suggested by a doctor to climb the Naga Parbat. He was sad to be separated with his brother, but later, his brother was also suggested. Then, they succeeded to get to the peak of the mountain. When they were coming down, the surrounding suddenly got dark. His brother kept getting tired. So they had to take a rest. Even though it was the next morning, his brother didn't get better. So they just went. Messener was being farther from his brother, because the brother was limping.
He was thirsty so he just ran toward to find water. When he did find water, drank it, and turned around, his brother was gone. Then an avalanche occured. He was very scared, because his brother was shut in the pile of snow. From that time, he was sad to hear somebody talking about the accident.
When he got older, he decided to climb Mount. Everest. But, his aim was different from those of other people. He decided to climb the mountain without oxgen supplier. Others tried to stop him, but eventually he succeeded with his friend.
Now, he is recorded as a man who firstly climbed the 14mountains and climb the Mount.Everest with out oxygen suppliers. I think that his perseverance was extremely applaudable.

News and Views -Big family- JoRdAn

Zlona Chana  is head of the largest family in the world. He has 39wives, 94children, 14 daugthers-in law (?)and 33grandchildren. In total, he has 180 family members. They live in 100 rooms in 4 floor house. In addition, each meal, they spend 30chickens, 60kilograms of potatoes, and 100kilos of rice. It means that they would have to spend extremely lots of money just on having their meal.
I think that 180 family member is incredibly large family. Long time ago, in korea one person could have lots of wives, too. However, I think 39wives are too much. Plus, how would a person be able to lead 180people and live in one house? It would be very confusing. You might call your dautgher as your wife. Remembering their name will also be one of the hardest work that you have.  Lastly, having 39wives are gross. Every single day, wives will have fight with eachother. Their children will also be said to have lots of mothers and siblings who belong to different mother!
In conclusion, maybe big family wouldn't be boring because every minute, you will be busy talking with one of the family members. However, the bigger the family is, the more confliction they would have with each other.

NeWs&ViEwS-Olivia

Ziona Chana's family is the biggest family in the world. He has 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters in law and 33 grandchildren. They live in four floor house with 100 rooms. They eat 30 chickens, 60 kg of potatoes and 100 kg of rice.

When I first read it I felt so amazing. I can't think how they remember all of these 180 family's name. I think I can't even when I'm of the family member. They have lot's of work to do. People should clean 100 rooms and cook for 180 people. It will cost lot's and lot's of money to feed them. I hope that I will never live in that kind of house. It might be fun, but I think I can't memorize 180 names and I will get sick when I look that family.

Mother

You will remember the time when you first saw me
I had to open my eyes to see you coming
I had to open my ears to hear you humming
And I had to open the gate
To go inside of your fence of love

You were always there to greet me
When I reach my fingers
I could touch you
When I barely open my eyes
I could see the light
That made the sky bright

When I was locked in the prison
Your hands were arisen
To save me
From the deadly pain

I could see the wounds on your hand
It looked painful
But you said it’s okay
Because I was with her

Nothing would be done
Without out you
It was all your effort
That made me the most precious one

News&Views - Alan

This article is about overloaded bus, caught by police officer. Following the Chinese Evening news report, the bus was found overloaded by a local traffic warden. When searching the bus, it was found that 44 people were sitting in the even though it was only for 43 people. However, it was not a real problem. When searching the trunk, 7 more people were found. The bus driver was letting everyone because when more people take bus, he will get more profit. Eventually, the bus rider got 12 penalty points and people were taken by other bus.

After reading this article, my first thought was not “it is bad to do that”. It is of course wrong to overload people in the bus, especially in the trunk. It is also really dangerous to do it. There are no safety belt in there, and no actual sits. So getting a 12 penalty point is obvious. However, I really don’t blame about what he did. It is of course illegal to do but I’m quite sure that everyone wants to load more people to get more profits, and that is happening a lot. This article is special because people were in the trunk. I think the driver is very smart, but in bad way. No one would think about people sitting in the trunk. It was really good originality of him. And, my other opinion is, if I have a chance to sit in the trunk of a bus, I really want to sit in the trunk, too!

Biography about Ethan Allen - Alan

This time I chose Ethan Allen for my biography because there is a word “Allen” is his name. So it looked really friendly to me. His biography was not that interesting but it was still fun to read it and to make it funnier, I will write his biography as if I am Ethan Allen.

I was born on January 21, 1738 in Litchfield, Connecticut. I was really tall and strong. My parents were Joseph and Mary Baker Allen and I had eight brothers and two sisters. My family was very religious. However, my father saw my love of books and intelligence, and sent me to Yale.

After, war broke out between England and France and my brothers took over the farm. I joined the military in 1757 to defend Fort William Henry against the French. After the war was over, I went into the business of making kettles and married Mary Brownson. I moved to the New Hampshire Grants in 1769 and was named Colonel Commandant of the Green Mountain Boys. When rumors of a revolution spread, I fully supported the movement. I led the force that took Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775. After that, I was elected out of command of the Green Mountain Boys.

I served in Canada against Montgomery's army. During an early attack on Montreal on September 25, 1775, I was, so sadly, captured. I was identified as a captor of Fort Ticonderoga, and was sent to England. Government voted against hanging me, fearful of the colonies reaction, and returned me to America. I was then paroled in New York City and with the financial help from my brother, lived quite comfortably. Later I was sent to prison for parole violation.

After being exchanged for a British prisoner, I was sent to Valley Forge as a guest of George Washington in May of 1778. On May 14, 1778 I was given the position of Colonel for loyalty, courage and strength. I was a hero to the people of Vermont for I persistence and patience. I died on February 12, 1789. Two years later Vermont was named the 14th state.

News&Views 7found hiding in bus luggage hold

On February 13, 2011, police officer found out that 7 people was hiding in the bus luggage hold. The bus driver told that lot's of passengers make more benefits. Police officer gave him 12 penalty points on his driving license.

I think it is too dangerous. People can die inside the bus luggage hold. They have no seat belts, it's dark and it's hard to breath because it's small inside the bus luggage hold. Police officers should check it because it can make lot's of people in danger and that bus driver should go to jail than giving him 12 penalty points on his driving license. I hope that this thing would not happen again.

Now these days many people are usinf the SMART phones. Not only adults but students too.Now I'm going to tell the" GOOD effects of using SMART phones to students"that I just read about.

Smart learning is a convinent learning based on mobility, and users don’t have to carry textbooks, notebooks, a dictionary and pens as in the past. It’s enough with just one hand held device.
Smart learning is the latest version of the learning method that is based on Information Technology (IT). Previously, e-learning, or electronic learning which enabled learning without being in the same location as the teacher, and m-learning, or mobile learning which focused on mobility both existed but didn’t really take off. Smart learning is the completed version of these, maximizing effectiveness in learning by using mobile devices.

Now in my veiws about this article, I think the SMART phones will just give distractions while they are studing because SMART phones has many other things you can do rather studing with it.

Egyptians Demand Change -Jordan-

Egyptians was protesting that Mubarak should end his presidency since he has benn ruling for 30years.  Mubarak said that he would spend his last seven months of presidency in overseeing transition to a new government to address pretesters' demands.
Egyptians don't enjoy the freedoms and rights that Americans do, such as freedom of speaking and peacefully protesting. Even though Mubarak was elected four times, nobody has been able to run against him.
Protesters wanted to elect freely. They  also hoped to get new job opportunites. 9.4percent of Egyptians don't have jobs. It's similar to the United States, because 9.1percent of U.S.A population is unemplyed.
I think that it doesn't matter whether Mubarak was president for 30years or not. The actual problem is that it didn't worth 30years of the dictatorship. In conclusion, he had to do the job that worths 30years of presidency since he has been president for 30years.

News and views about KTX-Olivia

KTX got derailed in Friday. It was going to Seoul from Busan. There was no one get hurt. And Korea Railroad Official said that they will found out the exact cause of the accident.
I think Korea Railroad Official should give a money to the people in the KTX train and they should check one more time before the train goes. So Korea Railroad Official have a fault about this accident. But also it was just an accident so people in the train should understand it than ask them to give them a money. I hope that this kind of accident will not happen again.

Thomas Jefferson Alan

Thomas Jefferson was the Third President of United States, a writer, well known personality in the field of education who established University of Virginia, historian, philosopher and a social activist. He was born on April 13, 1743, at Shadwell, Virginia to Peter Jefferson.

Thomas was a very good writer, and as he was practicing law, he wrote political articles. The articles written by him brought popularity not only in Virginia, but he also became known outside of the Virginia, too. His political work related to 'Rights of British America' was one of the famous pamphlets written by him. As Thomas was a good writer and a member of the Continental Congress, he was chosen as one of the authors to draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776. (I hate learning about Declaration of Independence. It drives me crazy!)

After 1776, Thomas left Congress and served in the legislature in Virginia for couple of years. After three years in 1784, Thomas became Trade Commissioner in France and was nominated as Benjamin Franklin's successor as minister. (Benjamin Franklin! I hate history!) He served on his post for few years and also took deep interest in learning European culture.

Near 1790 Thomas had gained a prominent position in politics and was being considered for higher-level posts. In 1790 he was selected for the post of Secretary of State. After six years in 1796, Thomas filled his nomination for the presidential seat from the Democratic Republicans but he lost the seat to John Adams by 3 votes and was offered the post of Vice-President. (So poor :C) During his term as Vice-President, Thomas worked towards achieving the presidential seat and after four years, he again filled his nomination for the same. This time he was successful in defeating Adams and was selected third President of United States. (yeah!)

Thomas Jefferson descended from the post of President in 1809. After end of his presidential term he lived in his house 'Monticello' for about seventeen years before his death. Thomas knew the importance of education and wanted to establish one University to fulfill his wish, so he planned the University of Virginia. It is said that Thomas designed the buildings and even marked the place where those were to be built. He even selected books for the library of the University and designed the curriculum. The school was opened in 1825 with about 40 students and he even served as first rector in it.

Thomas Jefferson died on 4 July 1826 when he was eighty-three years old, fifty years after the acceptance of Declaration of Independence draft.

The reason I chose him was because he wrote the Declaration of Independence. I was searching Declaration of Independence, and Thomas Jefferson popped out. At first, I was reading the article because it looked so boring but it was so interesting to know about him. The most interesting part was that he made the University of Virginia. I didn’t know about the University of Virginia so I thought it was the university that nation built. Also, I didn’t know that he was the vice president when Adam was president. I think this biography taught me a lot of things.

North Korea, Imprisoning People News and Views alan

This is a picture that was taken in Pyeong yang, North Korea last month. People who disagree with the North Korea’s political system or watch the South Korea’s drama and movie were captured and imprisoned here. There are dozens of monitors in the room, watching people in the small room. There are a lot of men in the room, bending their knees and putting heads down. There are women in the other room. If they talk or move a little, it is told to them that they will be punished and hit severely. One who escaped from the prison said he got assaulted for about 5 minutes but he was bleeding death. Since South Korea has the lack of food and living necessity, more and more people started to protest so the regulation has been enforced.

However, I don’t think they are actually poor. I feel sorry for one who died, but it is how the government of North Korea is made. Before thinking they are poor my first thought was the government should change, not the dictatorship but to democracy. I believe that is the only way to revive that country and improve the economy and unless, no one will think North and South should be united.

News and views. More Burgers and Less Bombs

It had been historically known that the US and Russia wasn't on the top lists in alliance. Instead, they were constantly on conflicts and debates, opening the gap between the two government. This could be a depending unfortune for the neighboring counterparts, as US and Russia are both powerful countries in our global society, and getting meddled up in their business could be a rough ride.

Recently, the US and Russia had internationally demonstrated a pledge to reset the relationship between the two countries and to build a sturdy friendship. Both governments had decided to turn their backs on and ignore the past, trying to remodel the countries's future. Even though it took several months for the US Senate and Russia's Federal Assembly to approve to the treaty and clear the news, it was a great relief for everybody that the past ordeals would stay past.

The main reason why everyone was on the bright side on the treaty was because both countries had powerful forces and arms- including Nuclear Bombs. Of course, not every citizen would want a bomb to fly over his head, and by full fledgling the treaty, it meant standing unuse of the bombs. In addition to give an final illustration of the title, the citizens were mightly pleased to see their president s sitting side by side devouring chips and burgers!

I think it amusing for us and for the citizens to see the heads stirring the country in to bad and good days. This incident is one of the most cometic piece of article, and I wish the good start ends good.

Biography Jean-Henri Fabre -Jordan-

Fabre was born in Fance in 1823. He was born in  a rural district and his family was very poor. All he had was just a house. He wanted to attend a school, but there wasn't any school in countryside. So he went to a city to attend school.
Even though he was old enough, he stiill couldn't read. One day, he got a book with lots of pictures in it, and from ther, he learned how to read. He was married to a woman who was 2years older than himself when he was only 21. They had a daughter who lived no longer than 10months. Next, they had a son who barely lived for about 1year.
Later, he decided to earn money. He though of earning money from getting a madder experimenting with it. So, he studied a madder for 12years. Then he succeeded the experiment. However, there was a news saying that a German scientists has developed the way to compound the technology of a madder. So, Fabre was frustrated.
When he was old, he wrote Souvenirs entomologiques, which is all about insects and some things like that.
Then he died when he was 92. I actually respect him very much because, thanks to him, we can learn lots of interesting facts about insects from the book he wrote.

A Single Shard-Lina

Tree-ear was named for a "mushroom that grows without benefit of parents" by Crane Man who was so called because of his one shriveled leg. No one knows where Tree-ear came from. Rumor had it that his parents were killed in an accident. In order to survive Tree-ear rummages through garbage dumps and scavenges for food every day and if he is lucky he is able to pick up some left over rice that no one wants. Crain man, who is a straw weaver, tries to do his part but because of his disability he is only able to manage some scavenging near the rivers edge where they live. Crane-man is the only family Tree-ear has ever known.Tree-ear made a habit of stopping at potter Min's outdoor studio to watch him create delicate celadon pottery. One day Tree-ear accidentally breaks a pot. In order to pay for damages, Tree-ear goes into servitude for nine days and ends up working full time for the potter. Naturally Tree-ear hopes Min will teach him the pottery trade but Min has no intention of training a boy who is not related to him. Min and Tree-ear begin a precarious relationship. This is a well-developed account of triumph of a boy who shouldn't have overcome the odds but did.

When I read this first page of book I thought this book would be boring, but actually this book had a lot of sad things made me emotional.

News and Views Alan

I will only write my views on this since Lina said the summary of the article (^o^). I think it is really good to have this restriction. By having this kind of law, the number of smokers will decrease and that will make people healthier. However, I think making this law is too late. A lot of people are smoking right now, in every second. A lot of people are getting cancer in every second. A lot of second smoker (including me, smells really bad!) are getting a lot of stress but government is restricting it now. It is too late. Too many people got hurt from it. It is not only problem but the second is how can they stop it. There is no way to check everywhere. Some smoke in the washroom and some smoke at night.

So my conclusion is the idea is good but it is not practical. However, my personal question is who made cigarettes and why did he make it. It doesn’t smells god and it is not good for health. Eeeaaww… my father.. he smells bad.

No more smoking in Seoul -Jordan-

Soon, smokers who are in Seoul won't be able to smoke in main squares of the city. Banning somking will start having effect on March 1, which affects three main squares. This is to reduce the side effects of smoking in public place. If they somke in the area that is forbidden, they will have to pay a fine of hundred thousand won which is about 90 dollars. I think this is ok because if we smoke in public places, it can harm lots of other people. For example, if we smoke in park, it can not only damage humans but also damage the environment of the park. So I think forbidding smoking in main squares are appropriate.

Alan Biography

The reason that I choose this person for my biography is because Oscar was the actor in my favorite drama Secret Garden.

Oscar Wilde was born in Dublin on 16 October 1854. He was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Trinity College, Dublin and Magdalen College, Oxford. While at Oxford, he became involved in the aesthetic movement and became an advocate for 'Art for Art's Sake'. Whilst at Magdalen, he won the 1878 Newdigate Prize for his poem Ravenna. On May 29, 1884, Oscar married Constance Lloyd. They had two sons, Cyril and Vyvyan (what a strange name^^). To support his family, Oscar accepted a job as the editor of Woman's World magazine, where he worked from 1887-1889. Wilde's greatest talent was for writing plays. His first play, 'Lady Windermere's Fan,' opened in February 1892. He produced a string of extremely popular comedies including 'A Woman of No Importance', 'An Ideal Husband' and 'The Importance of Being Earnest'(we read this!). These plays were all highly acclaimed and firmly established Oscar as a playwright. Upon his release in 1897, he wrote “The Ballad of Reading Gaol”, revealing his concern for inhumane prison conditions. He spent the rest of his life wandering Europe, staying with friends and living in cheap hotels. He died of cerebral meningitis on November 30, 1900, penniless, in a cheap Paris hotel.

No more smoking ins Seoul-Olivia

Korean government made a law, people cannot smoke in three main squares-Seoul Plaza, Cheongyecheon Plaza and Gwanghwamun Plaza. This law is from March. If some one smoke, they should give a fine of 100,000won.  Also, Seoul city plans to make 321 public spaces as non-smoking areas.
I think Korean people will stop smoking when this laws are allowed. Because Korean people like money and they don't want to give a fine. I think some people will smoke even this laws are made, but they will stop smoking after they give a fine. I think this laws are good for Korean people's health, public space users, Korea's three main squares, and Korea's nature.

News and views -Lina

Smokers in Seoul will no longer be able to light up in the city’s main squares under the toughened anti-cigarette ordinance taking effect next month, the city council said Friday. It was a pretty good news for me but maybey not the smokers.

As part of its public awareness campaign, the city government said it will set up warning signs around the squares by the end of this month and give a three-month notification period. When the grace period ends on June 1, those who smoke in the prohibited area will be slapped with a fine of 100,000 won ($90), it noted.

The Seoul city also plans to designate a total of 321 public spaces as non-smoking areas within this year, adding 23 city parks by September and 295 major bus stations by December, officials said.

The new ordinance was passed by the city council last October following the passage of an anti-smoking law at the parliament, which orders regional governments to implement anti-smoking policies to make it more difficult for people to smoke in public places.

In my views of this news I think it's good that the governments are highering the price to 100,000 won but in the view for the smokers hmmmm kind of unfotunate....

Harriet Tubman -Lina

Harriet Tubman was born around 1820 in Maryland. Her parents were slaves, so she also was a slave when she was born. She had to work even when she was a little child. When she was twelve years old, she suffered a serious injury when an overseer threw a heavy weight which hit her in the head. After that incident she slept a lot. This condition remained with her the rest of her life. People with narcolepsy will suddenly fall asleep wherever they happen to be.Harriet was afraid she was going to be sold and sent to the South, so she decided to run away. A white neighbor gave her some names of people she could contact to help her. She was about to escape through the Underground Railroad. The people who traveled with the slaves to help them escape were called "conductors". During a forty year period about 100,000 slaves escaped from the South through the Underground Railroad. Harriet made nineteen trips as a "conductor", risking her life every time, and successfully freed about 300 slaves. She carried a gun and threatened any slave who wanted to turn back.During the Civil War Harriet worked for the Union Army. Sometimes she worked as a cook, sometimes she served as a nurse, and even worked as a spy! After the war she returned to her home in Auburn, New York. Harriet Tubman died at the age of 93. After her death she received many honors. A ship was named for her; the Liberty Ship Harriet Tubman, and in 1995 the federal government issued a commemorative postage stamp in her honor.

Book review MarGaret

Margaret-2011-2-5

The book 'The sisterhood of the traveling pants' is about how four different teenage girls spend their vacations in different locations and people. It is their first vacation apart and they use the Jeans to support them, whatever happens. Each girl experiences a rambling holiday with love and pain and death.

The book is about how the four girls Lena, Bridget, carmen and Tibby spent their holiday.  Lena went  to her grandmothers house and for the first time meets her grandfather. She wasn't able to speak Greek so was unable to open a conversation, but she wasn't in bad terms with her grandfather. She even found out that her unique small nose was inherited from her grandfather. She also met a boy named Kostos and fell in love. Bridget went  to a summer athletic camp and met her coach Eric. Even though he was  older than her by four years, she still fell in love with him. Carmen went to meet her father who had a divorce with her mother. She was grief-stricken when she found  out that her father was remarrying another women with two kids. She ran away and then came  back again when she had finally understood her father. Lastly, Tibby worked  at store called Wallsmen and met another girl who had leukemia. They made a lot of good memories and shortly after Tibby's pet died,  The girl Tibby met died too.

Even though the story it self doesn't have a meaning, the pants itself does. Whenever the girls were doing something the pants were there to encourage them and give support. Each girl thought of it as magic pants and that all their friends were with them while they were wearing it. The pants expresses the teenager's mind that wishes to always to be with friends.

The Book is for teenagers. Not only teenagers but for senior teenagers. I myself is not at the level so wasn't able to comprehend the story. Usually all teenager books are about love between boys and girls. This typical format makes the book quite meaningless and in addition, every single teenager book about the same thing. Only the characters' names are different. However, if younger generations improve faster in their development, the teenager books won't be for teenagers- it could be for young people also. If that happened the former lines would not have existed.
