why SOME people's hands r yellow Lina

Some people's hnds are yellow like ME so i;m doing my PERSONAL homework that mr.h gave me

An excessive intake of carotenoids, found in carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, winter squash, spinach, kale, broccoli, and dark green and orange produce, can turn the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet yellow.  The condition is called carotenodermia and it is not considered to be dangerous.  Jaundice, which is a one sign of many possible diseases, produces a general yellowing of the skin and turns the whites of the eyes yellow.  Jaundice should always to brought to a physician's attention.  Carotenodermia, on the other hand, is reversed by eating fewer carotenoids.

know that's it!!!! done well,i did it for fun (i think)

News and views - An animal that lives forever._Margaret-

had been known for years that a Jellyfish is a very extraordinary creature and that it has a lot of secrets hidden behind it's small body. We have been observing and studying about their magical facts and their lifestyle, advertising them in tv shows, setting up laboratories to research them, and to spend every precious minute to find new species . And we have found out that one specie may live for eternity- a living immortal creature. Of course, it's not the kind of process that fits exactly to our vision of immortality-staying young and beautiful forever-but it actually goes through a cycle, of when it's an adult it changes back into a young.

And I've got a theory of my own about this strange immortality. This particular specie would breed like all the other jellyfish does, and as they live on for ever, it would also mean that our oceans will be flooded with forever living jellyfish. However, we had currently no problem with that kind of situation. So it means that this jellyfish has more predators than any other jellyfish. The jellyfish had lived on this planet longer than humans, so it must be more evolutionized.

In the days when it was not immortal, it must have been attacked quite a lot and almost became extinct. However, as the jellyfish struggled to survive and to reserve it's own specie, it had evolutionize into a immortal specie. And this is my theory.

And I can't help wishing to learn more about this exciting specie. Maybe, if this instict is something related to genes we would be able to apply it to human beings, and we will be immortal forever. If this happens  we would be able to save lands as graveyards would not be needed.  Wow.

An animal that can live forever.

The Turritopsis nutricula jellyfish can live forever. According to scientists' research, those jellyfish can go back from their adult age to their childhood. Obviously they wouldn't die because of their ages, but they are able to die if they get some diseases or get eaten by other predators. However, if those kind of situations don't happen, then that means they would be able to live forever. In my opinion, I will be amazed to live forever when I am a jellyfish. I can enjoy my life more than twice!!! But, in the humans case, I think it would be horrible to become a child when I was a grandfather. Ewe! I don't think living forever is good.

biography-Lina

I bet everybody knows him... Bill Gates!!!

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955. He and his two sisters grew up in Seattle.

Gates attended public elementary school before moving on to the private Lakeside School in North Seattle. It was at Lakeside that Gates began his career in personal computer software, programming computers at age 13.

From an early age he had an interest in computers and started programming them at age 13. He went to study at Harvard, but dropped out to pursue his 'small' business called Microsoft. He and Paul Allen adapted the BASIC programming language for use on the Altair 8800 - the first successful personal computer.

The real visionary deal Bill Gates made was buying a disk operating system (DOS) from another company and providing IBM with MS-DOS for their personal computers.

He married Melinda French on January 1, 1994 and they have three children Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe.

In 1995 Bill Gates ventured into writing with the book The Road Ahead. He followed this up with Business @ the Speed of Thought. Both books have spent numerous weeks on the New York Times' best-seller list.

He ranks as the richest person in the world. So how rich is he? Estimates in 2004 put his wealth around $46 billion. Bill Gates reckons he'll give away most of his wealth and leave only a small portion to his kids. He has already created the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation whose aim it is to bring technology to the under privileged.

Though there seems to be continuous investigations into Microsoft's business practices, the fact remains that Microsoft software made computers accessible to everyone. And we have Bill Gates to thank. Thank you soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!

autography -HENRY VIII & HIS WICKED WIVES

Henry was a king of England, long time ago, in the year 1509. He is well known for his executing ax and the six wives he had. Henry, was not actually supposed to be a king,  but when  his older brother Arthur died of an illness, henry is put heir to the throne. He also gets his brother's fiance, Catherine of Argon (who was 16, and was 6 years older than her next husband.) Some people thought this decision as some what too hasty, but they did not have to worry about the new couple's life, as Henry fancied his wife anyhow. Henry  ruled his region skillfully, and was also well respected and loved by his court ……until the trouble of wives began.

WIFE NO.2 . Anne Boleyn

Anne was small, beautiful, and bossy, and when she saw Henry being crazy over her, she played hard to get. This made her seem all the more attractive to Henry, so he divorced his first wife and married Anne. However, when he got upset when Anne produced a girl,(Queen Elizabeth) he was out raged and  when he finally got tired of her, he sent out rumors that Anne was a witch, and executed her. And as Henry said, Anne Boleyn had six fingers!!

WIFE NO.3 Jane Seymour.

Jane was the only wife who the king said he had really loved. Jane, was also the woman who was able to give the king what he wanted for so long, -a baby prince to lead the kingdom after he was  out. Jane only stayed on the throne for18 months!! She died 12 days after Edward, the baby prince was born.

WIFE NO.4  Anne of Cleves

She was very ugly and when Henry first saw her, he called for an execution for the painter who draw her. He then started to rack his brain about how to ditch his wife. Again, he divorced.

WIFE NO .5&6

The fifth wife and the king were different in 28 years of age. The 21 year old queen flirted and was executed. Lastly, for queen no.6, she survived Henry and when he died, she married again.

Now that's history!!!

Corporal punishment Alan

Corporal punishment is a very complex and controversial topic. It's hard to decide what is right and what is wrong when discussing how to discipline children. For those of you who are not familiar with the term corporal punishment it is the use of physical force with the intention of causing a child to experience pain for the purpose of correction or control of the child's behavior.

A lot of people think corporal punishment can be an effective punishment and deterrent for childish misbehaviour and it is happening in Korea. If children do not respond seriously to warnings or light punishment from teachers or parents, then a short, sharp stimulus, which inflicts pain but no lasting damage, is the last "method" they choose. Some will say it is because of cultural or historic problem. It is a fact that Korea was using a lot of physical punishment. But children are crying. Children are hurt. And what do they say is "it is for your own good." Do they really care about us and give us a punishment? Or it is a discrimination? It is never right to hit a child. Even, the power of physical punishment can not teach "why" it is wrong, it just tells weather it is wrong or right. What is the point of the punishment? It is to tell why it is wrong. But just using the punishment and children do not know why it was wrong? What are they learning?

It is true that corporal punishment is the easiest way to stop the misbehavior and it is also the easiest way to make future chaos. No matter how orderly you make the beating of a child, there are a number of adverse effects. They will lose trust in the adults who administer the beating; they learn that force is an acceptable factor in human interaction; they lose self-respect; and they build up resentment that cannot be resolved at the time but may lead to severe misbehaviour in the future.

Corporal punishment, do we really need this? Is it an effective way or anly making children painful? We have to ban the corporal punishment. Lots of people are getting hurt.

NEWS AND VIEWS. -COLLEGE EXAM DAY and all the fuss-MARGARET***

These days there had beeen some rochet about college exam. It was on the news and on newpaperes and was also the hotteset topic on peoples mouth.  Why all the intention of an exam? This exam, also called PSLE in some countries can be seen as the turning point of one's life.  This ten hour exam,(including breaks and lunchtime) can determine and judge one's future. If you pass in flying colours, you shall be in seventh heaven , living and enjoying your life  in high sprits. Really, you would have no worries. You would have the approvement to go to a  celebrating college and to get a promising job  and the right to look in the mirror and see someone worthwhile. Not likely a chance  anybody want to lose? huh? So ,all the fuss  is quite and must be understandable and well respected.  And now, considering this exam as the sudject, our government is failing to do its duties of sponsoring and helping the testers.  They have, in fact, even contributed in helping the students to paritically lose more marks!

Our government had  hand out special mechanical penciles for the students, especially prepared for the exam.(distributing the pencil is to stop the students to do any other possible kind of copying) However,  it was found that the penciles were rubbish and the gratite we put in kept on breaking. This penciles enraged our students as they rushed on the streeets and in to the school demanding a refund for their lost grades. The news anouncer had also tried to write a poem with it, but, it broke 26 times while writing. Ironically, this kind of  disgrace is given to our students to write good answeres on worksheets.

This is not a small matter to look and pass. Our students have been studying for ages for this moment and now they are losing innocent grades just because of the lack of care and attention about what they use and the condition. We should try to respect and give all our attention to the students and to support them while they go through one of their tougheset times. I want to say this on the students behalf and also, my behalf too. As only being a primary student, I shall too ,one day enter this period of  hysterical studying.  And I wish that when my turn really come, I shall not get the  un-attention my fellow students got this year.

Taiwan, Why so angry to Korea ALAN

Taiwan player Yang sue jin was disqualified in the Taekwondo game and Taiwanese are blaming Korea. It was turned out that she put electrical senser that was not allowed in the game so following the rule, she was dis qualified. She and her coach said that "It was okay to wear this in the first and the second game but why not in this game?". Even though they were protesting strongly, it was not accepted.

The next day, Taiwanese started to have a protestant. They teared the Korean flag and stomped Korean instant noodle, which is popular in Taiwan and Taiwan reporters took a video.

As a result, the videos were on the internet, news.chinatimes.com, and Koreans are opposing it. They siad, " there were nothing wrong with the judgment, and the referee was Filipino, so they have no reason to oppose Korea."

ArriveNet readers wrote "We understand big problem but it is a problem that it is Kore's fault." , "It was unfortunate that excellent players were disqualified, but tearing other's flag is wrong." They are the comment by readers.

It was true that even before, Taiwan and Korea had a complex because of China. China, China, China... I think the main problem is China. Before, We had very bad relationship with China because China was communist country but we had really good relationship between Taiwan. However, later, China's economy got better, much better that Taiwan, and Korean decided to establish diplomatic relations with China and one condition was to sever the diplomatic relation. And Korea follewed that. If only China didn't have that condition, this would not have happened.

biooooooography!!!!!-Lina:D

When Rosa Parks was born, she was named Rosa Louise by her parents. Her father was a carpenter and her mother was a teacher. Her parents separated when she was two years old, and she with her mother and brother moved to her grandparent's farm.

Her mother, Leona, homeschooled her until she was eleven, then she attended a private school; the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls. Her training there helped to shape her views which would guide her later in life.

During this time in America blacks did not enjoy the rights they have today. Rosa remembered living in fear when she was a child as a result of the insults and prejudices against people of her race.

She attended college, but had to drop out to care for her grandmother who became ill. Later she cared for her mother. She married Raymond Parks, who was a barber. They were active in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the NAACP (pronounced "N double A C P").

Rosa worked as a seamstress*. It was very tiring sitting at a sewing machine and sewing all day. To get to work she rode the bus.

Black people could not sit just anywhere they wanted in the bus. They had to sit in the back of the bus. If white people were already sitting in the front of the bus, the black person had to pay the fare, get off the bus, and reenter at the back door. Sometimes the bus driver just drove off and left them before they could get back on at the back door. If the bus filled up with people, the driver would ask a black person to move so he could reposition the movable sign which divided the black and white sections.

On December 1, 1955 after a hard day at work, Rosa was riding the bus home when the driver asked her and three black men to move to make more room in the white section. The three men moved, but Rosa refused. A police officer came, arrested her and took her to jail. She was bailed out that evening.

She didn't plan the incident, but when it happened, she decided to stand up for her rights. She was tired of being humiliated* and treated unfairly. She was not the first black person to refuse to move on a bus, but when the event happened to her, civil rights* leaders knew they had found someone to champion their cause. Rosa was a person who was above reproach, and people could not find fault with her character.

A group was formed and 35,000 handbills were distributed calling for a boycott* of the buses. This meant the blacks would refuse to ride the buses unless they were desegregated and they could sit anywhere in the bus. And refuse they did! For more than a year, 381 days, they boycotted the buses. They carpooled, rode in cabs, and walked to work.

On November 13, 1956 the United States Supreme Court ruled that segregation* was unlawful, and the city of Montgomery, Alabama had no right to impose it on people riding their buses. The next month the signs on the bus seats designating white and colored sections were removed. The boycott was over. . .!

 Rosa park did itttttttttt!!!!!!

In my conclusion I think Rosa Park was soooo courageous!!!! AND RACISM SHOULD BE OVER!

News and viewssssss-Lina.H

can you belive that a 6 year old child is living in the mountin with a dog???? In the article it said .The child has been found living with a dog larger than him at a deep valley in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local news reports said. Arung has lived with a dog, cooking his meal and washing his clothes in person. Netizens feel sympathy for him who is reported to have even been suffering from AIDS.

He has yet to be wild enough to be called “wolf man” in his daily life. But What has surprised people is that he feeds himself, even repairing his house and farming vegetables.I mean he was only 6 years old!!!Furthermore regrettably, the child has apparently inherited HIV from his parents who have been killed by AIDS, according to the residents living in a village at the foot of the mountain.

The six-year-old, who has grandmother as the only kin to him in the village, does not know what AIDS is. So they couldn't cure his parents.
Now many people are tring to help him.

In my conclusion, seeng in my view I think peole should adopt the child because it is impossible that 6 year old child can live by himself!!!

Bioooooography-Lina.H

I bet everybody know her ...  Marilyn Bell (born October 19, 1937) is a long-distance swimmer born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She was the first person to swim across Lake Ontario.

On September 8, 1954, Marilyn Bell started her swim across Lake Ontario from Youngstown, New York to Toronto, Ontario at virtually the same time as world famous American long-distance swimmer, Florence Chadwick. The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) in Toronto had offered Chadwick $10,000 to swim the lake as a publicity effort for the annual exhibition. Bell, who felt the offer snubbed Canadian swimmers, took on the challenge without pay. After several hours, Ms. Chadwick was forced to give up with stomach pains and vomiting while 16-year-old Marilyn Bell became the first person ever to swim the thirty-two-mile distance.

The swiming conditions were less than ideal. It rained through the night and the water temputure was tooo cold it was just 16'C. starvness, boredem, and tireness she wanted to quit but she maintain the course.

Marilyn kept up her strength with Pablum, corn syrup, and lemon juice with water, along with heroic encouragement from her boat crew and her coach, Gus Ryder. Radio stations broadcast hourly reports of her progress and rival newspapers published “extra” editions throughout the day. When she finally arrived at about 8:15 p.m., a crowd of 300,000 people gave her an emotional welcome at Sunnyside Waterfront, now known as Marilyn Bell Park.

In conclusion I'm so amazed and I bet it was a longgggg pilgrimge for her... I mean wow I'm so surprsied that she preserved the course even thugh the other competitors quit..!!!
I'm so amazed!!!

The effects of gambling -Lina@@

THE GOOD AFFECTS:NONE!(Might be losing money if you were brain damaged!!)

THE BAD AFFECTS:First you will be addicted and can not stop it.
You will know that it's harmful to you but you can't stop.
As same as smoking and drugs you will aviously know that those are bad for you and tries to stop you feel pain and go crazy. For an example my uncle tried to quit smoking and that night my uncle's hand was shaking and going crzy and couldn't contorl himself.Back to the point if you keep doing gamblings you might get mental problems and lose more and more money.

In conclusion When I grow up I will never gamble and will not even think of doing it and I having my "late lunch" now and I'm staarving and any ways biiiii:)

Essay -Gambling-

I think that lots of people enjoy gambling. The money is moving from a person to other people. Some people invest their whole property to win the gambling. Although lots of people enjoy and love gambling, there are also some people who disagree with gambling. Those people might think that there are lots of negative effects of gambling which is the topic that I’m going to talk about right now.

Firstly, gambling is very addictive. In other words, if we try it one time, we wouldn’t be able to stop it. When we get addicted to it, we become crazy about the thing and will gamble every day. For example, people gamble because they want to get money. Unfortunately, most of the time they play, they lose. From that time, they become greedy and angry. So they continue to gamble, but every single time they gamble, they lose the game and lose money. At last they wouldn’t be able to gamble anymore since they don’t have any money. This is the result of being addicted to gambling. They keep gambling and they keep losing money. Plus they only think about gambling, nothing else. They just concentrate on gambling, so they can’t keep their lives normally. As a result, gambling leads people to undergo poverties and make people to have hard time with living. I bet that no one would want to be poor.

Next, they will have some health problem. As I mentioned earlier, they wouldn’t be able to think about other things except gambling. One of those “other things” is their health. First, if they gamble, they can get physical health problem. One of the reasons is that in the place where people gamble, lots of people smoke. Since the gambling place is a sealant, the gamblers aren’t possible to breathe in fresh air instead of the air from smoke. In addition, if people gamble, sit down for a long time so they don’t have their legs comfortable. Secondly, there can be mental problem since their mind wouldn’t be balanced. For instance, normal people think about things in balance. They don’t concentrate on one thing for so many days.

In conclusion, I think that gambling can affect lots of people in very negative ways. I wouldn’t ever gamble when I grow up, because I don’t want to be poor!!

News and Views:Signs of alien civilization on Moon (Jordan)

According to the news, some people say that it seems to be ailien whose picture is taken. However, others say that that would be a built structure. Also some say that the third picture shows the iron water pipes while others say that it is a mark of ailien civilization. I think that there might be some ailiens because in some books, they tell about people seeing ailiens. Not only in the books, but there are also lots of clues of ailiens living in the moon. For example, in the second picture, it looks as if it is a kind of a creature, but I do not think that it would be a human being. Even though I believe that there are ailiens, I hope there aren't any ailiens, because they look ugly!

Biography Thomas Edison (Jordan)

I bet that everyone knows this guy, Thomas Edison. As you know he was one of the greatest inventors in the world. He was born in 1847 in United States. I attended to school for about 2years but after that, he quitted going to school. Instead, he learned from his mother. His family was so poor, so Edison had to work when he was only 12years old. His job was delivering newspaper. So he had to ride a train at 7:15 and he arrived 4hours later. When he was coming back to home, it was over 10o’clock so it was very dark. Even though he was tired, he was very excited because at that time, he was already interested in inventing things. Inventing things was and is very hard. We need lots of skiills to invent things and it would also take lots of time and labors. As a result, I'm so curious about how he became the best inventor ever.

Later, he decided to be an inventor. It was very hard thing to be an inventor for him because he didn't even attend school at that time. As I told you earlier, he just studied 2years at schools. But I think he was extremely interested in inventing things. So he invented a gramophone. We can listen to music with it and we also can record things with it. He also invented incandescent light bulb. It was very useful. Lastly, he also had electric lights installed in the New York City and lighted the street. He made so many things that we are using in our lives right now.

I think Edison is a great inventor. He made over1000 inventions in his life. I didn’t know that Edison was deaf. I think it will be horrible to be deaf. But, I’m so surprised that he made so many things even thought he is a deaf. Although I'm not blind, deaf or something, I can't even make a perfect paper airplane. That's the reason why it is so unbelievable for me that Edison could invent so many things while having some disabillities.

essay Alan

Now, I slept. awake from the dead sleep. you have a right to give us a homework and I am doing.

The main bad effect of gambling is simple, they can not stop. Commonly we call this addicted. Everyone knows that a lot of people are addicted to drugs. To buy them they sell their house, car, and sometimes they even sell their sons and daughters. They will say that they do this for their happiness, drinking those drugs. They say that they will quit it and they think a big win will stop if. But it is exactly the same thing as having drugs. They can not stop. There's two case, gambling and loosing all the money and gambling and become rich. Everyone knows that what will the person who lost all the money will do. However, there are 2 case for the person who become really rich, kept work and become richer or play and again loose all the money. It would be really good even if they work after they become rich by gambling but the problem is that almost everyone just spends it right away. That's the how they loose all the money.

You probably already know how much gambling can hurt families. Families may be affected in different ways. Gambling problems can be hidden for a long time, so many families will be shocked when they learn how much money has been lost. Some relationships do not survive a gambling problem. Other families struggle through difficulties and grow stronger together. People can and do recover from problem gambling, but it takes time and patience to work through all the issues. That problems will develope to the health problems. Not only that, it can be a main cause of the suicide. It is turned out that the rates of suicide are higher for people who gamble excessively, and for their family members. The people most likely to attempt suicide are those who also have a mental health problem such as depression. People who have threatened suicide or hurt themselves in the past are also more at risk.

I conclusion, I think gambling should be banned so more people will live in the happiness and peace.

Biography Alan

Bill Gates is founder and chief software architect of Microsoft, the most successful software company in the world. He was born on 28th October 1955.He become interested in programming while he was attending school in Seattle. Soon, he made his friend, Paul Allen, who was interested in programing too, and practiced their skills together in the school.
Bill went on to Harvard University and while they teamed up with Paul to make a new version of programming language for the first personnel computer. The company was impressed with Gates and Allen's work and licensed the software, resulting to Gates and Allen forming the company Microsoft to develop software for other companies. So Bill dropped out of Harvard to spend more time on the new business.
Microsoft announced Windows 1.0 in 1983, which promised a graphical user interface better graphics and multitasking. However the final product was not released for another 2 years until 1985, with very few compatible applications Windows did not sell well. As a result, Microsoft released a number of upgraded windows 2.0 versions which added many programs, versatility and features. At the age of 31 Bill Gates became the youngest self-made billionaire in American history.
In 1990 Microsoft headed by Bill Gates created a new version of Windows called Windows 3.0 with a much improved GUI and features which sold more than 10 million copies and after, Windows 3.1 and 3.11 came out. Building on their success, they tried to make better version and it is, right now, Windows XP. And, of course, Bill Gates become the richest man in the world.
The reason I picked him to do the biography is because he is richest man in the world and he has 46 billion! (he is second now, anyway) What are you going to do if you have such a great deal of money? Spend it? Save it? I will probably spend it ^^. However, he, as much as he could, donated the money. After Bill Gates married Melinda French Gates in 1994 and had three children, Jennifer, Rory and Phoebe, he had spend more than $3.2 billion to global health, $2 billion to improve learning opportunities to low income families, $477 million to community projects and more than $488 million to special projects and annual giving campaigns. That's I think amazing thing. I want to be a kind and generous person like him~!

But my conclusion is that I want the money!!!

ESSAY-THE EFFECTS OF GAMBLING? WHO KNOWS?-MARGARET-

I don't gamble and I 'm never going to, so I don't exactly know every detail of it. Only have I once watched a documantory of the serious side affects of gambling. It showed a newly weded couple who had moved their home to a new town . The husband worked hard every day and they were able live a nice, pure life of husband and wife. However the woman became bored of the house works that were always done in a short period of time, so she decided to go bowling . At her first class, she was persuaded by her friends to join a gambling party. Later so gets so addicted to ......

volcanic eruption in Indoonesia Alan

Seven more people have died after a volcanic eruption spewed scorching ash into a village in Indonesia, a hospital official said Saturday. At least 76 people are now dead after the Friday eruption at Mount Merapi, in Central Java. Merapi continues to spill hot ash cloud and rumbles consistently. The data also indicates that the hot ash cloud that hit a village near the crater was 450 to 600 degrees Celsius (842 to 1,112 degrees Fahrenheit). "We have only been able to identify 11 of the dead because the burns were just too severe," said Endita, a spokeswoman for Dr. Sardjito Hospital in Central Java. Many Indonesians go by one name. "Most of these people lived around 10 to 20 kilometers away from the volcano," Endita said. It is teling that how fast an how dreadly it happened.

In all, about 120 people have died since Mount Merapi began erupting October 26. But Friday's eruption is being called Merapi's largest so far, unleashing ash clouds and gas that have reached villages in areas many thought were safe from the volcano's eruptions. The children's charity Plan International has launched an appeal to help 20,000 people fleeing the mountain. In addition, last week, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's coast, triggering a tsunami and killing at least 449 people. Hundreds more were injured.

Of course it would be very painful memory to the people who are there. I can imagine how dreadful it is. They will scream, run, no place to sleep.... it would be terrible. However, on the other hand, I think that there was a posibility that mount bek-doo would have erupted. Nowdays, before the eruption in Indonesia, there were almost no volcanic eruptions. So the magma under the land would try to come out to the thin part of the land and probably it was mount bek-doo or the on in Indonesia. Actually there was a steam coming out from the mount bek-doo too. To me, or to the Koreans, I thnk was is very lucky thing. Accroding to the news, it was told that if the mount Bek-doo erupt, not only Korea but also japan would be erased to the world map. So in conc;usion, I think that it was really bad for the Indonesians but in the point of view for Koreans, it was thanks to the mountain in Indonesia that mountain in our country didn't erupted.

NEWS AND VIEWS-MAGGIE-

There are all lot of unresistered foreign workers in korea. So every year or so, some of them get caught and get sent back to there home-lands as the result of their so called 'crime'. And now another foreigner has become a victim of this policy- and to end up with a sticky end.    One vietnamese worker was thrown into a coma and then sentenced dead, after falling out of the open window of the second floor of the factory he worked in. It is known that he was trying to run away from a group of officers who had broken in to the factory to catch unresistered workers. The vietnamese worker was included in the group of  soon-to-be-caught group, so he was desperate to find an opening for his escape.

While running he noticed that one of the windows in the factory was opened-just enough for a grown man to jump out. It seemed like a perfact escape route at that time. From above, it also didn't look too high and it indeed wasn't. Seeing no other way he jumped out of the window, rather unstabily, as he landed on his head (because of serious brain damage) and died.

His death had triggered thousands of foreign workers and they are now HOWLING with boiling anger and  demanding for a compensation of the vietnamese worker's life. They are also requesting for not -so-severe break-ins of the officers and are seeking for the national human rights programe to help them and to adjust things fair in their ways.

In my opinion, our countries officers should not so brutally punish the foreign workers . They have their right to work in Korea, and their hard labour even helps our country to develp! Of course, being unresistered is elligile, but should it be as serious as this?  Bringing death to the people?

News and views -Lina:)

In the news it said that the Ruby sellers and the Ruby makers are selling fake Rubies that are made by lead and Ruby dusts.

One person bought a Ruby for 700 dollars and found out that the colors were coming out.And when she was wearing her Ruby necklace she got itchy on her neck and now she has to go to hosipital. And a other family the family bought a 500 dollars Ruby necklace. And one day she found out that the rubies were falling out and losing their colors. And also this lady's neck started to be itchy.

In my opinion and seeing in my view I can understand the Ruby sellers I mean personally who doesn't want money? but I'm thinking shouldn't it be illigal to sell such those things? I hope the goverment will make a strict law to make the Ruby sellers not to sell the "fake Rubies"!!!
Please help this situation please!!!

Biography -Lina

Hana Brady was borned in 1931 in Germany and lived at a small and peacful town named Nove Mesko.
She had a brother who was three years older and lived with her parents. She had a lot friends and her best friend was Maria.. She was same with others but one thing was differnt with other familys. It was that they were Jewish people.

Life changed drasically for people when the Nazis enforced restrictions and made new rules to show them how Hitler was so powerful. And finally Hana's parents got sent to the death camp at 1941.And Hana herself was deported with George(her older brother) to Terezin (A death camp in the east) in may of 1942.Hana and George were sparated on May 18th when the arrived in Terezin. When they arrived they first shaved thir hair and got their uniforms(thoses uniforms were the clothes what you wear in jail.)and got their tickets for lunch. The food was always rotten, disgusting, and a food that you want to puke when you see it. Also when you were sick you were locked in an  attic with other sick people and  die.

Also when you stay at the Tersin for 2 years you go to a bigger death camp named "Auschwits" When you arrive there you stand in the line and the Nazis look around you and says " you go right and you go left"
they do this to sperate the people who were useful and useless. the useful people goes to the land and work and the useless people gets locked in the gas chamber and die.

Hana Brady dies at the gas chamber at Auschwits with her friends. But luckly her brother survived. And still living at Canada but still having bad memories in the past.

In conclusion there would be other many wars and people died from it. But for like Jewish people it was just SO UNFAIR!!! I mean they didn't do anything but the only reason they were just picked to be one...
I THINK RACISIM SHOULD STOP!!!

Biography (Isaac Neuton) Jordan

Isaac Neuton was born in 1642. He was so small that he could fit in a pot. His father was dead 3months before Neuton was born, and his mother remarried to an old, rich man. So, he had to live with his grandparents and his two servants. When the mother came back, she decided not to raise Neuton like her husband who didn’t have any knowledge. Then she made her son to go to school, but she thought that knowing so much knowledge would be same as knowing no knowledge. As a result she decided to make Neuton to go to school until the middle school.

Neuton went to Kings middle school that was 10km away from his home. Near the school, there was a drugstore and the owner of it was his mother’s friend, so he could stay there and sleep in the drugstore. He was very busy since he went to school. But, the weird thing was that he didn’t have much school work or homework. The reason why he was busy was that he was making so many things in his room in the drugstore. He also helped his mother’s friend’s work in the drugstore. It was interesting for him to see the mother’s friend making drugs by putting so many things in it. At this age, Neuton wasn’t very smart. In the middle school, there were about 80 students and he was always the last. However, it changed after the fight happened. One day, the drugstore owner’s child came to him. That kid wasn’t smart either, but he was 1place higher than Neuton. So the kid looke down upon Neuton and hit him. Neuton was so angry and challenged the kid to fight. Neuton wanted to revenge a lot so he punched and kicked the kid until he surrendered. However, the revenge wasn’t the end so he decided to study hard and beat the kid in studying. As a result, he became the 1st place in Kings middle school.

In 1665, there was a disease called pest, so he had to go back to his hometown. One day, he was sitting under an apple tree and was thinking about moon, earth and other things. Suddenly, an apple fell from the tree. From that time he knew about the gravity and he made a type of math called infinitesimal calculus. Thanks to his plenty of knowledge, he could be a professor. Unfortunately, his class was so difficult and boring so there wasn’t any student in the class he was teaching. When he was over 80, he was undergoing so many diseases and at last, he passed away when he was 84.

1-TO-1 -THE EARTH- MARGARET.*****

This book is a miracle!! Such a lovely story! I know that I shall  be very happy just to read this book over and over untill I die!

This book is about a farmer's life full of struggle, pain and happiness.  Farmer Wang Lung  marries O-Lan , a lowly servant at the Great House, the residence of the most powerful family in their village.Eventhough she is plain, slow and dumb, she proves to be an excellent wife, hard working and uncomplaining. As time goes on,Wang Lung's household  prospers. He buys more land, and O-Lan gives birth to two sons and a daughter. Meanwhile, the Great House begins to decline.

All is well until a drought strikes the town and the resulting famine drives  the family to the brink. Desperate, they decided to travel south to a city in search of work. They had heard that there are alot of jobs to do with a goodly price. However, it is hard to find a job and the family survives by begging. They long to return to their farm and to their land,  but they have no money for an ox, seeds , and food.

Then there comes a time when the rich are too rich and athe poor are too poor. Many angry mobs are formed, and O-Lan joins a mob looting a mansion. As she had lived in a mansion during her child years, she knew where the treasures are kept. So she is able to retive a bagful of valuable jewels.  This windfall allows the family to go home and prosper once more. O-Lan  only asks to keep two pearls for herself.

Years passes by. Wang Lung's sons grow up into educated young men- one a celebrated scholar- and he has grown so wealthy that he purchases the Great House. Then, Wang Lung becomes dotty  with Lotus , a pretty, young dancer at the local tea house, and makes her his second wife. He begins to find fault with the worn-out O-Lan and gives her pearls to Lotus.

O-Lan is very angry to see another woman  in her house and she becomes much more miserable and quiet. Meanwhile she is also becoming quite sick and she knows that her life is going to halt soon. However she wanted to see her second son be married to a girl she liked.  On the lad's wedding day, Wang Lung returns the pearls to O-Lan before she dies, exhausted by a hard life.

It seemed like seventh heaven while reading that book.  before reading the book, I wondered why the book's name was the good earth. To judge by the title, I thought the book was going to give me a good, long lecture of saving the earthe and on and on. And I was sure that the only thing I had to do is to skim the pages as I had done with 'Catch-22'. However one must never judge a book by it's cover. The story just enveloped me in strange but strong power.
Wang Lung had said that the earth is their savior -their mother-and no one could steal him of his land. That explains it. The title is associated with this statement. Yes, I was delighted with each and every word and I wonder if there are any better writers than this im history!!

Biography Alan

Famed as both aviator and author, Antoine Jean-Baptiste Marie Roger de Saint-Exupery was born in Lyon, France to an old provincial noble family. Never very interested in traditional education, he later enrolled in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to study architecture. In 1921 he entered military service in a cavalry division but was soon transferred to train as a pilot in the French Air Force. His family and fiancee, the future novelist Louise Leveque de Vilmorin, disapproved of his interest in aviation, so for a time he settled down to an office job in Paris. Saint-Exupery could not let go of his dreams of flight, however, so the couple eventually broke their engagement.

By 1926 St. Exupery was flying again, and he quickly achieved fame as a pioneer of international postal flight. His efforts were considered particularly brave and heroic since, in those days, few if any flight instruments were available to assist pilots. His primary flight route was the Aeropostale between Toulouse and Dakar. Later on, after flight instruments became available, Saint-Exupery complained that pilots who used them were more like accountants than pilots. It was around this time that Saint-Exupery decided to write about his experiences as an aviator. His first story, "L'Aviateur," was published in magazine format, and in 1929 he published his first book, Courrier Sud (Southern Mail). His aviation career continued to grow as well, and also in 1929 he flew the Casablanca/Dakar route and became the director of Cape Juby airfield in Rio de Oro, Morocco. He then moved to South America, where he was appointed director of the Aeroposta Argentina Company. The first of his major works and the winner of the Prix Femina, Vol de Nuit (Night Flight) was published in 1931 and covers his experiences with the Aeropostale. Also that year he married Consuelo Gomez Carillo, a Salvadoran writer and artist. It was a difficult marriage, since Saint-Exupery traveled frequently and conducted a number of extra-marital affairs.

It was on one of those travels far from his wife that he experienced a serious plane crash. The year was 1935, and Saint-Exupery, along with his navigator, Andre Prevot, crashed in the Libyan Sahara desert en route to Saigon. The team was attempting to break a record in order to achieve additional fame as well as earn a prize of 150,000 francs. Both men survived the crash, but landing in the Sahara could have meant a death sentence, nonetheless. They had no idea of their location. According to Saint-Exupery's memoir, Wind, Sand, and Stars, their sole supplies were grapes, one orange, and a ration of wine. However, immediately following his rescue, Saint-Exupery told the press that the men had only a thermos of sweet coffee, chocolate, and a handful of crackers, enough to survive for only one day. They experienced visual and auditory hallucinations and by day three were so dehydrated they ceased to sweat. At last, on day four, a Bedouin discovered them and saved their lives. Saint-Exupery's story, Le Petit Prince, which begins with a pilot being marooned in the desert, is in part a reference to this experience. The story is semi-autobiographical philosophical tale, including social criticism of the adult world.

Saint-Exupery continued to write and to fly until World War II, when he served in the French Air force. Once France fell to the Germans, he went to live in the United States and Canada. He wrote The Little Prince in the 1942. Following his two years living abroad, St. Exupery returned to Europe to fly with the Free French Forces and fight with the Allies in a Mediterranean-based squadron. By now he was 43, older than most military pilots assigned such duties. He suffered a good deal of physical pain at this time, due to old fractures. He was assigned the P-38 Lightning aircraft, described by an officer as "war-weary, non-airworthy craft." St. Exupery's final assignment was to collect intelligence on German troop movements. On the evening of July 31, 1944, he left an airbase in Corsica, and was never seen again. There were a few reported sightings, and an unidentifiable body wearing French colors was found and buried near Toulon. In 1998, a fisherman found a silver identity bracelet bearing the names of Saint-Exupery and his wife Consuelo and his publishers. It was found hooked to a piece of fabric, presumably from his flight suit. In 2000, through the efforts of divers and archaeologists, Saint-Exupery's plane was discovered crashed in the seabed off the coast of Marseille. The location of the crash site and bracelet are less than 80km by sea from there the unidentified French soldier was found and buried in 1944.

He, as a reader of his book, is one my favourite writer. I read Le Petit Prince or the little prince when I was 9 and at that time, it was just a story to me but now, it seems like it has a great meaning in the story that everyone should remember.  But the important thing is that I don't like reading!!!!!!

News and Views -Divided families from North, South Korea meet after six decades - Alan

Relatives divided since 1953 reunited for the first time Saturday at a South Korean-built tourism resort in North Korea amid tensions between the two sides. Elderly men in suits and women in traditional Korean silk hanbok dresses sat at numbered tables in a large restaurant, Many burst into tears; some sat, spoke and exchanged photographs; others simply looked bewildered as they clutched hands and stared into faces unseen for six decades. The relatives have been separated from since the 1950-53 Korean War.

In Seoul, the scenes at a tourism resort at Mount Kumgang played on TV at a press room. "We have held a memorial service for you every year," South Korean Yi Jong-sool told his North Korean elder brother, Yi Jong-ryeol, 90. "I can't believe you are alive." The oldest of the South Koreans, Kim Lye-jong, 96, bear-hugged her North Korean daughter, Woo Jong-hye, 71.

Goh Yoon-sob, 81, from North Korea met his son Koh Bae-il, 63, from the South; the two were separated when the son was three years old. The men clutched hands and exchanged photographs. The son appeared speechless as his father spoke to him. "Our mother was waiting for you, but she died last year," South Korean Yi Yun told his older brother Yi Hwa-chun, 81. "If only she had lived one more year ..."

Four South Korean soldiers, initially believed killed in action in North Korea, were alive. They met their family members from the South. Some 436 South Koreans, ranging in age from 12 to 96, met 97 family members from North Korea. But some planned reunions did not go ahead; some relatives had died in the past few days, while others were too ill or fragile to attend.

The meetings, which stretch over three days, will be bittersweet; the chances of any of the divided family members meeting again are slim. The tragedy of the divided families dates to the 1950-1953 Korean War, when the Cold War's division of the peninsula into two nations became permanent. Amid fighting, millions of Koreans became refugees -- either fleeing the violence or fearing political reprisals from one side or the other. In winter of 1950, an estimated 650,000 refugees fled North Korea when United Nations forces retreated in the face of a surprise Chinese offensive.

There is no direct telephone or mail contact between the two Koreas, but some families in the South have managed to broker surreptitious voice and written contact with their relatives in the North in recent years, as North Korea's border with China has become more permeable and illegal cell phones have penetrated the insulated state. Some 80,000 South Koreans have registered with their government to join one of the infrequent reunions, but 40,000 people are believed to have passed away or given up hope, according to the South's Ministry of Unification. Numbers north of the Korean demilitarized zone are unknown.

The first family reunions took place following a landmark summit between the two Koreas in 2000. Since then, 17,100 people representing 3,500 families have been reunited on 17 separate occasions. Seoul has been keen to make the reunions a regular event. But in recent talks on the matter, the North has demanded 500,000 metric tons of rice and 300,000 metric tons of fertilizer to make the meetings a monthly event.

The event comes amid tense inter-Korean relations. The North continues to deny any involvement in the sinking of a South Korean warship in March that killed 26 sailors. Seoul, citing an international investigation, accuses Pyongyang of a torpedo attack. On Friday, the day before the reunions were due to begin, North Korean troops fired two bullets at a South Korean guard post. Southern soldiers returned three rounds, and are demanding an explanation via the United Nations' Military Armistice Commission. But the incident has not affected the reunions.

It is really, actually super good thing to meet the families that you haven't seen for more than a half century. Everyone would be very pleased but I think that it is really strange and not understandable that North Korea and "wanting" something like food and fertilizer. It has to be an event that make people happy, not just a trade between North and South. So in my case, I think that the North Korea is just doing this event because they have nothing and there are no way to get the money or food so they just simply want the money and food. We can see how North Korea has been doing things. I think, at least from now on, they have to spend their time and mony to recover their economy and open their country to the others. I believe that it is the way that they have to be.

NEWS AND VIEWS -PURTIN DAUGHTER MARRIES KOREAN?-MARGARET***

It appears the most powerful man in Russia will soon be getting a South Korean son-in-law.

News is spreading quikly. It is known that The second daughter of putin and a korean man-who works in samsung company-had been dating each other from 2006.  And now, as they grew fond of eachother,(according to press reports) Putin's youngest daughter, Ekaterina Vladmirovna Putina , 23, will soon announce her marriage to a  25-year-old son of a retired Korean admiral who worked at the South Korean Embassy in Moscow as a military attache in the late 1990s.

According to sources, the couple met in July 1997 at a dance party at an international school in Russia. After the admiral’s term in Russia ended and his son left Russia, the couple’s love continued and the Russian girl visited Korea during the World Cup in June 2002.And interestingly, they had also known each other from childhood, when the man was about eleven years old.

In my opinion, this couple can be seen as the perfect example to show that korea had developed numerously during the past few years. Even just about ten years ago, Russia and Korea was enemies, as the russians supported the North koreans during the war and we were helped by the Americans. So it was just impossible imagine a russian girl, to marry a korean. Howevere, time had flown by and the hard feelings had become solid history. Nowadays , russians respect our countrie's fast develpment.  And it is known that the second daughter of putin sad that she would want to work in a korean bussiness market. Also, if the two couple get married, it will help Our country and Russia to be alliances. THIS would really help our economy to thrive as Russia could be a wonderful help for us.  So, it can be said that people are waiting for news-and some are impatient to hear it!!

biography-Lina

Helen Keller, was born in 1880 in Alabama in USA. At age of just 18months, she lost both her sight and her hearing.Later, this illness claimed her ability to speak as well. Helen grew up to become an unruly child who threw terrible tantrums out of her stressed, she became completely   uncontrollable.

Her parents tried to get help from different doctors but no one could think of a method to control this "wild animal" And finally the Kellen family met Anne Sullivan.
Anne Sullivan came to Helen's house to teach Helen to get her learn how to control her feelings. When they had the first meal tougher first Anne Sullivan taught Helen how to use spoon, fork, and knife. Then they moved into a cottage with Helen and continued teaching her. Because Helen could not speak they created codes to understand each other the first famous word was "water".That word influenced Helen's Life as a writer.

When Helen grew up, she wrote seven books in total. Even thaugh she couldn't hear or see anything she had courage and confidant to persue her future and life. And that inspired many people in life.

Personally I'm so surprised that she ended up being a writer! I mean if I were her I would jut be a person who doesn't know why to live and have no future and no confidant. But Helen Keller became a famous writer and in 1962 there was a even a movie about her life.
Okay so basically I am so surprised!!!!

BIOGRAPHY- MILTON HERSHEY AMD HIS CANDY BARS-MARGARET****

Many pwople likes chocolate- some just adore it. So if you are a chocolate lover, you may be farmiliar with this name. The cereator of all the canybars put in to millions of mouths- yes, it's Milton HERSHEY.   You've probably  seen his name on thousands of candy bars. However it is likly that you probably do not know all the different ways he tried to make life more sweeter and enjoyable  for others.

Milton Hershey was born in a small town named  Derry Church, Pennsylvania, on September 13, 1857. Hershey didn't have a 'perfect' childhood as most people referred to.  As his father had no permanent job, he moved around a lot as a kid. While living and growing up in a various places,  he meets nice people and he dearly wants to please them and to make them happy. He eventually learned that they liked to drink or eat sweet things, just for the pleasure for it's flavour.

Hershey was also not able to afford good education. As he was always movinf schools, texts didn't bother him at all! However, instead of history ,mathmatics and all the study stuff, he learned and listen to a great deal of canybars.  Following his dreams to be a celebrated candy -maker, he,at the age of 15,  went to work for a candy maker in Lancaster.

Whenever he was given a chance, he tried to open up his own candy factory.  After several failures, Hershey was finally able to  start his first successful candy business. He called it LANCASTER CARAMEL COMPANY. As history says,he first did it by making caramels, not by his famous chocolate. It is known that Hershey only began to make chocolate to use with his caramels. He started the Hershey Chocolate Company in 1894. His chocolate was so popular that he had to sell his caramel business to keep control of his bursting incomes.  Trying to spread out his luck further out, he created more chocolate delights. Hershey's Kisses rolled off the production lines in 1907. The Hershey bar with almonds soon followed. And those sweet treats are still popular today. All available in all stalks.

As much as he liked candy, Hershey wanted to help people too. In his hometown he built a factory in 1903. Then Hershey moved his entire company there in 1905. The community renamed the town after him in 1906. Hershey and his wife, Catherine, even started a special school for orphan boys in the town. Today the school, now open to girls, continues to give young people in need a free education. Hershey also set up a foundation to help fund education and community activities in the town. He died there on October 13, 1945.

I think of hershey as a man full of ideas and creativeness. Without those skills, how could he have made this lovely creation?Personally I like chocolate. There is nothing in the world to please me better than a stick of choc.  I therefore praise our hero, the mightist of all, the king of all cany-makers, Hershey!!  HIP HIP HORRAY!!

WILLIAM SHAKESPEAR -MAGGIE-****

William knew how to gamble up words to new phrases.
He knew what would captivate his audiences and to lead him to his door of fame. William Shakespear was truly a man gifted from god.

Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. As all  real old famous people are, his  exact birth date is a bit of a mystery, like many aspects of Shakespeare's life. While the exact date wasn't recorded, it has been commonly accepted as April 23.   William was not poor, as his father was a glove maker and an important man in the town. His father wanted shakespear to have education and be a important man one day, so Shakespeare attended school for a time and it is thought that some of his studies were classical poetry, plays, and history -which later inspired his plays.

It is believed that Shakespeare left school around the age of fourteen, which was not uncommon at the time. He was a full grown man full of passion for literature. He traveled, always witha book under his arm and wrote down any ideas that came to his head. While moving around, he met Anne Hathawy by his friends.

He married Anne  in 1582 when he was eighteen years old. After saying their vows, the couple moved to their house where-the place is unknown-was surrounded with all sorts of trees. With Anne along to give him joy and happiness, shakespear noted this time as the 'visit to early heaven'. The following year they had a daughter named Susanna. The Shakespeare family grew again in 1585 with the birth of twins named Hamnet and Judith.

Nothing is known for certain about what Shakespeare did between 1585 and 1592. There are stories that he joined a theatrical company or that he worked as a schoolteacher. Whatever the case, Shakespeare had become known as a dramatist and an actor in London by 1592. Some of his early works include Titus Andronicus and The Two Gentleman of Verona.

Shakespear had just begun to clim a mountain of succes when a deadly outbreak of a disease known as "the plague"broke out. Hundreds and thousandes people died and terrified the people. As it was known to spread better n gatherings, it forced many theatres to close their doors in the early 1590s. Shakesoear's also closed down and everyone fled. Shortly thereafter, in 1593, Shakespeare had his first work, the narrative poem entitled Venus and Adonis.
When the theaters reopened in 1594 ,Shakespeare returned to the stage as part of a troupe called Lord Chamberlain's Men (later the King's Men). He stayed with this group as a dramatist, an actor, and a part-owner for many years. In 1599, the company built the Globe, a theater near London. There, Shakespeare wrote some of his greatest tragic and comedic works around this time. He created Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth as well as Twelfth Night and Measure for Measure there. His works where a great hit and the the theaters which performed his plays were always crowded with thousands of people streching their neck to see thier hero, their god, the man who composed these miraculous plays.   Shakespeare's works were so popular that even Queen Elizabeth I of England had them performed for her.

In his later years, Shakespeare , seeking fo peacefulness, returned home to Stratford-upon-Avon around 1610 to 1613. Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616. Since his death, there has been some speculation whether he really wrote all of the plays himself or they were written by a group of people. Some have even questioned whether he really existed at all. The mysteries surrounding Shakespeare may never be solved, but there is no arguing about the lasting impact of the plays and poems attributed to him.

I personally like the plays he wrote-they are like written articals about heaven. But I don't like the author, thats what the problem is.
To see what little recorded things about shakspear, he sounds like a loneard or something. I think that good plays comes out of joyful hearts full of emotion. That's what Shakespear didn't had, but he did without it, that's for sure. His a wirdo I guess. Sorry if I offended any body, but it's my view and I have the right to say it.

Can you live without Television? (Jordan)

Televisions are used every day in our lives. We watch them to get information and news, watch movies, and watching some famous competitions such as Olympics and World cup. I think that it would be so important to get news about what kinds of things are going on in the world. Actually I think that people must know about the things happening outside because it would be comfortable. For example, last year there was a serial killer who killed so many people. If people didn't know about him, they could have gotten injured from the criminal. However, there are also some bad news shown in televisions such as game programs. As a result I think there can be two teams divided about this topic depending on people's view.
Firstly, some people would think that televisions give us a lot of benefits. They probably think that those intellectual programs such as documentary are giving people lots of knowledge and information. I don't think that that is wrong idea because it is not false that I learned a lot of things by watching a documentary long time ago. Unfortunately, I can' remember what it was about right now, but I'm sure that at that time I was very glad to know a new information. In addition, I think isn't too bad to watch Olympics and World cup. Those are performed as entertainments. It is important to have some enjoyable time, not only just working every day! So I think that some people can't live without televisions.
On the other hand, there would be people who can live without televisions. Perhaps, they would think that that information can be found in many other better ways than in televisions. They would think that watching televisions are just time wasting. Plus, there are lots of disadvantages of watching televisions. It can decrease people's eye sights and it makes people foolish and unfriendly. For instance, if people start watching television and concentrate on it, it is hard to stop watching it. Threrefore, they wouldn't be able to stop watching that can make them to be foolish. They can be unfriendly since they don't communicate with people a lot when they only watch televisions. The time of communication between people would reduce. In conclusion, some people might be able to live without televisions, but I think I can't.

CAN I LIVE WITHOUT TELEVISION? HUH,-MARGARET-

Can you live without television? Well, I can . So no doubt that you can.

Well, if to say logically, people can survive with just three simple elements- food, water and air- the three most crucial things in life. Only that we are always striving to reach more things that would help lighten up things a bit. So we add a house, some clothes, and some furnitures. However, even though we have a roof over our heads and a simple set of furnitures , us humans never stop to please our needs. To satisfy our over piling expectations, the power of science and technology have helped us each install a computer , a flat -screen-TV, a washing machine, a printer and so on and on.

Every single human being can live without television. All of us know it, though we are embarrassed of our daily routine which includes hours and hours and torrents of hours occupied with that big lump of metal, television. And the most irritatingly of all, these people gives out silly excuses saying that the world is changing and that television is very crucial to there lives as informers, so the conclusion is that people can't live without television- it is so obvious- so what is the point of asking such a question?

Yes, the world is changing, but it haven't changed the television, and its watchers. While giving out excuses, have they ever thought about what they do as the reaction of television? For example , there was a man who always after work would sit on his couch and watch hockey, baseball, soccer and whatever on the television called 'sports'. Now that the world has changed , did the television and the man also changed? No, they haven't. the man is still there watching and watching , while the television's screen is bursting with entertainment, sports, dramas and all sorts of for-break-time-things , with only one or two of really knowledgeable programmes . And this is just the case of thousands of people- including children.

We can live without television, and if you still deny it, take a look of the people living in Africa, IT, and all the homes without television. So if to say in your aspect, the dwellers there are not human? We all can live without television. Terribly sorry if offending your precious darling, but it's a fact. so you BETTER BELIEVE IT. SO THERE.

Trapped Miners Finally Rescued (Jordan)

Thirty three miners were trapped underground in San José, Chile, in August 5. At last, they were rescued after two months. Those miners were 2070 feet under the ground while theyr were still alive. Reports reported that the miners would be rescued after christmas. However,  all the peole tried very hard to rescue the miners who were trapped underground. As a result they succeeded months earlier than the schedule. The first first miner of thirty three was pulled in a capsule through the hole for rescue. His familly, workers, and Chile President were greeting him aboveground. Their eyesights were accustomed to the darkness since they were in the darkness for so long time. So one of  U.S companies made those miners special sunglasses. Those miners, I think, are very lucky to survive for 2months while they are in underground. If I were one of those miners, I would just have fainted or have died. I think those miners are mysterious.

Catch-22 -Joshua-

Finally! I read this entire book, Catch-22. It was both fun and boring, depending on the plots that took place. But it was quite impressive, because it was illustrating an individual's mind during one of the harshest years in the whole time. It was exiting to see the people’s reaction to the things that they have to do. It was very interesting.

Captain Yossarian is in the hospital, even though he is not sick. He doesn’t want to go to war, as well as his friends. He is a bombardier captain at catch-22. He likes to be in the hospital with no worries. But, he eventually is forced to go into war again. Yossarian thinks that everyone in trying to kill him, and each other. This shows us the cruelty of war. Yossarian has only one objective; surviving from the mad war. However, Colonel Cathcart increases the missions he has to accomplish. He can’t excuse himself from the missions because of the oath he swear. Still, he fights well and becomes a hero. He accomplishes his mission well.

I think there are some advices this story gives us. The first one is that war is tragedy and gives many people unfortunate, and even though they don’t want it. The second advice is to approve the reality, and do the best you can do there. I thought that if I was Captain Yossarini, I would have been eager to be in the hospital until the war ends. But still, he ran into war and fought bravely. This was a good story to read. I hope no more wars occure.

Biography - Alllllllan

Christened as Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain was born on November 30, 1835 in the small river town of Florida, Missouri, just 200 miles from Indian Territory. The sixth child of John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton, Twain lived in Florida, Missouri until the age of four, at which time his family relocated to Hannibal in hopes of improving their living situation.

In his youth, Twain was a mischievous boy. Though he was plagued by poor health in his early years, by age nine he had already learned to smoke, led a small band of pranksters, and had developed an aversion to school. Twain's formal schooling ended after age 12, because his father passed away in March of that year. He became an apprentice in a printer's shop and then worked under his brother, Orion, at the Hannibal Journal, where he quickly became saturated in the newspaper trade. Rising to the role of sub-editor, Twain indulged in the frontier humor that flourished in journalism at the time: tall tales, satirical pranks, and jokes.

Under the apprenticeship of Horace Bixby, pilot of the Paul Jones, Mark Twain became a licensed river pilot at the age of 24. Earning a high salary navigating the river waters, Twain was entertained by his work, and enjoyed his traveling lifestyle. In 1861, with the beginning of the Civil War, Twain's piloting days came to an end.

After returning home to Hannibal, Twain learned that military companies were being organized to assist Governor Jackson, and he enlisted as a Confederate soldier. Within a short period, he abandoned the cause, deserted the military, and along with thousands of other men avoiding the draft, moved West. On his way to Nevada, Twain's primary intentions were to strike it rich mining for silver and gold. After realizing the impossibility of this dream, Twain once again picked up his pen and began to write.

In March of 1872, Twain's daughter Susan Olivia was born, and the family appeared prosperous. Unfortunately, Langdon soon came down with Diphtheria and died. Twain was torn apart by his son's death, and blamed himself. Moreover, Roughing It was only mildly successful, which added to the family's hardships.

After traveling to Europe for a lecture series, Twain experienced a turning point in his career. Twain's newest novel, The Gilded Age, was published in 1873. The novel is about the 1800s era of corruption and exploitation at the expense of public welfare.

After the broad success of The Gilded Age, Twain began a period of concentrated writing. In 1880, Jean was born. By the time Twain reached age fifty, he was already considered a successful writer and businessman. His popularity sky-rocketed with the publications of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), The Prince and the Pauper (1882), and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885). By 1885, Twain was considered one the greatest character writers in the literary community.

Twain died on April 21, 1910, having survived his children Langdon, Susan and Jean as well as his wife, Olivia. In his lifetime, he became a distinguished member of the literati, and was honored by Yale, the University of Missouri, and Oxford with literary degrees. With his death, many volumes of his letters, articles, and fables were published, including: The Letters of Quintas Curtius Snodgrass; Simon Wheeler, Detective; The Works of Mark Twain: What is Man? and Other Philosophical Writings; and Mark Twain's Notebooks and Journals. Perhaps more than any other classic American writer, Mark Twain is seen as a phenomenal author, but also as a personality that defined an era.

What I really like about him is that he wrote my favourite book "The adventure of Huckleberry Finn" It is my favourite book because once I had to write a book report and I did this book, predicting that I will get B. But Surprisingly, I got A+++! So, it became my favourite book. And Mr.H, can we please do this kind of book (The adventure of Huckleberry Finn)? I like the adventure book!!!

Can you live without TV - Alaaaaan

Nowdays, the world is changing, no actually it has been already changed. Now, we are using the computers, smart phones...... and television is taking a lot of part that probably it is the best way to get the information and to do in the free time.

I am quite sure that everyone thought about this question before, "Will it be avaliable to live without T,V?" A lot of people, especially adults, will say "No I can't" or "Probably not" because now, it is one way to get the information or the world's news and it is probably one way to be happy for them. But I think it is possible to live without television.

Probably, I am the one who watch the television most here. I usually watch it every night, before I go to sleep. However, I know that nowdays, I am not watching television everyday, but sometimes chatting with my Canadian friends by using the "IPod". I think that it is one of the reason that it is possible to live without television. Even though we don't watch television, we can just use our phone of ipod to watch a television.

"After 5 years, the time that we watch television will decrease but we will use the 'new technology' more"

This is what Bill Gates said. He predicted that later on, we will use the new technology things rather that the television. And I agree with that. When we are watching television, we have to wait until the thing that you want comes out. however, it would be easy if you just click and watch a T,V show on the youtube.

As I wrote, some people are using the computer to get the information and those who use it that way, they probably need to watch T,V everyday, but not now. It is also associated with the technology too. As everyone knows, people are using the smart phones more and more. And if you turn it on and just click some buttons, the news will just pop out and it would be faster than just waiting for the news on the T,V,.

In my case, even though I really like watching T,V, now I have the phone, ipod, nintendo..... I think it is more than enough. the reason that I am watching television is just to spend time but I now know that it is better to play with the phone and ipod. Also, to tell the truth, everything like television and computers in the "want" category, not in "need"'s. So it means that when our parents or grandparents were a child, they didn't had those but it seemed like they were really happy. They lived without those, why can't we?

J.K.Rowling-Lina:)

The book lover's in the whole world will know Joanne Kathleen would be.

she was born on July 31,1965 in England. During the age six he knew she had a power to write.
The idea of a book Harry Potter was during 1990s.She then went to work on the story. Her mother died in the same year that she started to write her novel. Harry Potter's challenges
he had faced after his parents passed away was the thing that she wrote how her family got heart broken when her mother died. After her mother had died she went at Exeter University to study French.

Joanne Kathleen Rowling kept writing even after she moved to Portugal to teach English.
While there, she married to Portuguese Journalist Jorge Arantes. The couple had a daughter and later divorced she became extremely poor. And struggle with money she still wrote her stories.
And the novel that she was writing was Harry Potter. After she had success , people says that Joanne Kathleen has more money than Queen Elizabeth 2!!! She married Neil Murat in 2001and the couple has two children together. Now they are living happily.

Can you live without Television-Lina^^

Every time people ask me if can I live without a television I had alwalys said ''YES'' but now I changed my mind.^^
Telvision Telvision Telvison! I think WE don't need television in our lives(as I mention before), because the world is changing!!!

First of all if you watch too much television can brings better relations with television and give us a bad relationship and give bad impressions with outdoor activities. If you watch too much television you can't get fresh air. And that equals your lungs won't be that happy. I mean don't you want to be  healthy???

As I mention in the beginging THE WORLD IS CHANGING! These days people are looking at iphones computers and all those technologicy stuffs. And people are busy busy busy!!! like for students  there are so many academys and tutors that you can't even breath and what time will we watch televisions
???? And for adults the econemy is the trouble! SO they have to WORK WORK WORK!
 SO these were the reasons.

And plus more if you starts to watch television you alwalys feels like your tube is whispering and coxing you to watch your favorite show. That causes makes our grades bady bad bad!!!
OH! and the very important thing is that if you watch too much television or tubes in a short distance your eye sights will turn bad.For an example like me!:(

Many parents finds out their chid or children starts to act strangly and one of the reasons were too much tubes!!!! For an example my brother loves TV but my brother can't find the diffrence of the real world and the "fake world" and once after watching his favorite show he tried to fly and KABOOM! My brother got hurt. now if I think carefully he watched a show about a bird boasting her wings and blah blah blah.

So basically I'm saying you can get dangerous if you watch too much TV(like my brother). And physically it makes us feel iritate about outdoor activities.

OKAY I confess I LOVE TV but PERSONALLY!!!! BUT I AT LEAST KNOW THAT TELEVISION IS BAD FOR ME^^:)

A Seperate Peace Alan

Gene Forrester, the protagonist, returns to his old prep school, Devon, fifteen years after he graduated to visit two places he regards as "fearful sites": a flight of marble stairs and a tree by the river. First, he examines the stairs and notices that they are made of very hard marble. He then trudges through the mud to the tree. The tree brings back memories of Gene's time as a student at Devon. In 1942, he was 16 years old and living at Devon with his best friend and roommate, Phineas. At the time, World War II is taking place.

Gene and Finny, despite being polar opposites in personality, become fast friends at Devon: Gene's quiet, introverted intellectual personality complements Finny's more extroverted, carefree, athletic demeanor. One of Finny's ideas during Gene's "Sarcastic Summer of 1942" is to create a "Super Suicide Society of the Summer Session", with Gene and himself as charter members. Finny creates a rite of initiation by having members jump into the Devon River from a large, high tree. He also creates a game called "blitzball" that has no winner.

Following their period of intense friendship was a period of intense one-sided animosity during which Gene strives to out-do Finny academically. This animosity culminates when, as Finny and Gene are about to jump off the tree, Finny falls out of the tree and shatters his leg when Gene deliberately shakes the branch they were both standing on. Because of his "accident", Finny learns from the doctor that he will never again be able to compete in sports which are most dear to him. Gene reveals to Finny that he caused Finny's fall. At first Finny does not believe him and afterward feels extremely hurt.

In the end, Gene is confronted about the "accident" by Brinker Hadley, who accuses Gene of trying to kill Finny. This confrontation ends with Finny falling down a flight of stairs, and again breaking the leg he had shattered before. Finny dies during the operation to set the bone. The doctor surmises that Finny died when bone marrow entered the blood stream, because his heart suddenly stopped during the surgery. Gene doesn't cry over Finny, but learns much from how he lived his life, stating that when Finny died, he took his anger with him. In Finny's death, Gene could finally come to terms with himself.

Personally, really seriously, I didn't like this book. But probably it was the book that is really helpful to me because my mother forced me to study and I said that I am reading the book. So I almost finished the book yesterday and it took 1~2 hours.

Also I think that this book is really 'not my style'. It is not adventurous, no humur....... I want to read the kids' book, not these kind of books!

Disaster in Hungary Alan

The Hungarian government made an urgent request to the European Union for help in the cleanup effort after a reservoir holding industrial waste burst earlier in the week. The government wants expert assistance in three villages left covered by the toxic red sludge after the accident Monday, the official news agency MTI reported. Meanwhile, the sludge from an aluminum plant reached the Danube, Europe's second largest river, on Thursday as emergency officials worked to contain as much of the leak as possible.

"It is a huge tragedy for the whole country," said Anna Nagy, a Hungarian Disaster Management offical. "We love the Danube, we're very proud of the Danube and we tried to protect it."

Hungary needs time to calculate the cost of the disaster, saying that the government's first response had been to try to save lives and clean homes. Tibor Dobson, a top disaster management official, told CNN that the sludge which flowed from an aluminum plant reservoir that burst on Monday is less dangerous than it was when it spilled. Officials believe pH levels have dropped to within an acceptable range, making the river safe, Dobson said. They are monitoring the Danube for sign of toxicity, such as dying fish. Nagy said pH levels had fallen to 9.1. That's more alkaline than neutral, which is 7 on the scale, but much less than it was originally, at 13, the Catastrophic Protection Unit said Thursday. Emergency workers were pouring plaster and fertilizers in hopes it would bind with the sludge and counter its alkalinity. The exact chemical composition of the sludge has not been revealed, but aluminum processing normally involves compounds that include cyanide, cadmium and chromium.

The environmental disaster which occurred nearly 100 miles west of Budapest near the town of Ajka has killed two children, ages 1 and 3, an elderly woman and a 35-year-old man whose SUV overturned in the sludge. About 250 people have been evacuated from their homes, said Gyorgi Tottos, a spokeswoman for Hungary's Catastrophe Protection Unit. The reservoir has since been repaired and the flow from the pool halted. But the material that flowed out of the reservoir continues to pose a threat. The plant received an operating permit in 2006, he said. The European Commission is studying a copy of the permit and sees nothing wrong with the paperwork so far, he added. The aluminum factory has said it will pay for the victims' funerals.

It has property and liability insurance, insurer Allianz Hungaria Biztosito told CNN, but would not say how much. Residents were advised not to eat produce from gardens that were covered when the dam burst. It was not clear when residents evacuated from affected areas in the villages of Kolontar, Devecser and Somlovasarhely would be able to return home. The long-term consequences of the leak were also unclear. In some villages, police with guns patrolled some of the villages to keep looters at bay. A state of emergency has been declared in three counties, the State Secretariat of Governmental Communications said.

I saw this news a few weeks ago too on the TV. At first, when I was just listening, I thought that there was a flood in Hungary but when I actually looked at it, it was the flood that has "red toxic". I felt really upset and I really wanted to help them but I changed my mind. I think the reason that they are having this serious problem is because they just leave the red toxic. Usually, if there is a sewage, the government sent it to 'sewage disposal facilities' and purify it. However, they didn't do that and they are having this serious problem. Probably it costs much money and longer time. I think it is just 'To cover the well after the child has been drowned in it.'

Benjamin Banneker : Self taught genius Alan

Benjamin Banneker was born in 1731. He grew up on the family farm. Around town it was known as "Bannaky Springs" due to the fresh water springs on the land. Bannaky used ditches and little dams to control the water from the springs for irrigation. His work was so reliable that the Bannaky's crops flourished even in dry spells. The family of free blacks raised good tobacco crops all the time.

In 1753, when Banneker was twenty-one, a remarkable thing happened: he saw a patent watch. The watch belonged to a man named Josef Levi. Banneker was absolutely fascinated with the watch. He had never seen anything like it. So, Levi gave Banneker his watch. This was to change his life. Banneker took the watch apart to see how it worked. He carved similar watch pieces out of wood and made a clock of his own, the first striking clock to be made completely in America. Banneker's clock was so precise it struck every hour, on the hour, for forty years. His work on the clock led him to repair watches, clocks and sundials. His career as an inventure, astronomer, and mathematician was just beginning.
I think the reason that he could a do all of these things are because of the efford of his grandmother and . Molly, Banneker's grandmother, taught him and his brothers to read, using her Bible as a lesson book because there was no school in the valley for the boys to attend. Then one summer, a Quaker, school teacher, came to live in the valley. He set up a school for boys. Benjamin Bannaky attended this school. The schoolmaster changed the spelling of his name to Banneker. At school he learned to write and do simple arithmetic, now we called it math.

In 1790, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was the capital of the United States. The lawmakers decided to build a new city in the Districtn of Columbia and make it the capital. President George Washington appointed Benneker to help the designer, Pierre L'Enfant, created a very complew set of plans for the city. It had many parts that had to be measured exackly. The city was designed in the shape of a diamond. The Washington Monument was at the center of the daimond. Streets spread out from several circles and formed patterns. But before the plans were finished, L'Enfant was fired. He took al the plans when he left. Banneker amazed everyone by remembering all the plans and drawing them abain. This saved the U,S, government the time and cost of a new design. But I think the most important thing is that Washington d,c, is the beautiful city it is today.

It is so amazing that most African Americans at the time had a very little education so he studied books on mathmetisc and map making. he also read books about the stars and how they moved across the sky. He borrowed a special instrunment from a friend to study the moon and stars through the hole he cut in the roof of his house. (It was good to make a hole but I think it is a little stupid.)

After he began publishing books called almanacs with information about the stars, the weather, and other topics. And that was really amazing too. 'How could he forcast the weather?' that's what I tought. Anyway as a resultof these popular books, Banneker became famous throughout the Untied States and as far away as France and England.

Although Banneker studied and recorded his results until he died, he stopped publishing his Almanac due to poor sales. Banneker died on Sunday, October 26, 1806. In 1980 The U,S, postal service creatd the Banjamin Banneker stamp to honor him and remind us all of the work he did.

What I just like about him is that he had so good memories and he was so intelligent and creative. Probably the reason that he could remember all the plans are because he made the plan almost all by him self and he even taught himself when he was young.
